PORTRAIT
The story of HANI'BAGS begins in my home town "Kiel" - a small city situated on the Baltic Sea. It is based on the deep connection to my home, my family and my roots, that have grown by the sea. HANI'BAGS is born out of an inner motivation to combine values and passion. I have spent half of my childhood on boats. I have a great longing for freedom, being surrounded by nature, fresh air and winds. I worship high quality craftsmanship, long-lasting and robust materials, and the process of creation and manufacturing. HANI’BAGS is a way to combine hands and thoughts. The process of trying out, drafting, designing, modifying, adapting, sewing, cutting, measuring, lashing, riveting, unravelling, mending, finishing, testing and at the end giving something to someone, that enjoys it just as much as I enjoy making it, is a great gift.

PROCESS / MANUFACTURE
The process begins with acquiring used, suitable materials and selecting different fabrics and hardware for the bags. The cloths are mainly far-travelled, well maintained cloths. I list the names of the boats, which the sails have served on, in the product descriptions. The sailcloths vary in texture, thickness, strength, age and traces of usage, that determine the bags nature making each of them unique. For this reason, I provide detailed descriptions and sell each bag as an individual product. The process continues with thoughts and experiments on functionality, on joining and fastening techniques, with considerations on design and appearance, with the definition of a basic framework/model and further with testing the effect on and with the human body. Optimized standard models have emerged from prototyping, custom-made products and own considerations. The name of a model is derived from the name of the first owner. All products have „product-lifetime“ warranty, which means I offer repairs with small repair fees. The storage and production process, as well as the exhibition of prototypes and current sales models, take place in a small atelier.
